Security tags for the bovine sector
Agri-Traçabilité Québec offers to cattle producers the possibility to buy metal security tags to avoid the loss of the animal's identity.
Following the acceptance of a resolution adopted during the April 2009 Annual General Meeting of the Fédération des producteurs de bovins du Québec concerning the use of metal tags, the Comité de la boucle bovine (made up of representatives of the FPBQ, the FPLQ, the CCRBQ, Valacta, the FADQ, the CIAQ, the CQRL and ATQ) proposed to the ATQ board in June that metal tags be made available to bovine producers.
Agri-Traçabilité Québec is therefore offering you the opportunity to purchase metal security tags to avoid the total loss of animals' identity data. These Tamperproof metal tags, which are not available from local retailers' store will bear five-digit sequences and will be sold in packages of 30 tags, at $0.32 per tag.
The metal tags are not official identification tags, but rather security identification tags that provide backup data in case of the loss of both official tags. The metal tags do not exempt producers from identifying animals with approved cattle tags.
It is crucial to declare metal tag numbers with corresponding regular tag numbers; in case of doubt or data loss, ATQ will be able to help retrace animals that have lost their official identification tags.
If you already have Ketchum pliers for Kurl-Lock-style metal tags, you must obtain an adaptor to use the Tamperproof metal tags sold by ATQ.
To order ID tags, please remit your completed order form by mail or fax, or contact ATQ customer service at 1 866 270-4319, from Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
