ATQ would like to bring your attention to the Regulation respecting the Identification and Traceability of certain animals, which makes it mandatory to send in the following information when declaring that an identifier has been attached, regardless of the means of transmission: the date on which the animal was identified (date of tag application), the date of birth as well as the sex and category of the animal.

Methods of data transmission

The SimpliTRACE application was designed with the goal of simplifying the collection and transmission of data in the ATQ database.

In addition to accelerating the process of capturing and transferring information, using a computerized tool to produce declarations ensures the greater reliability of the data.

To find out more about the data transmission options following the launch of SimpliTRACE, see the following sections. 

Electronic data transmission

With SimpliTRACE, you can produce your declarations with the help of electronic forms accessible in your ATQ file.

Please note that is it also possible to send information using electronic CSV or XML files by using the application’s web services.

Your information can also be sent in electronic files by using compatible declaration or management software.

Other data transmission options

Following the launch of SimpliTRACE, it will also be possible for you to produce your declarations by using official ATQ forms. Once completed, these paper forms may be sent by:

  • Fax or post
  • Email (by sending a scanned copy of the form)

Electronic transmission

DATA FORMATS

When transmitting data with SimpliTRACE, the following formats must be respected to ensure the processing and recording of this information in the ATQ database.

  • Type of data

    Alphanumeric characters

    Example

    MSmith or MSmith1

    Required Format

    The SimpliTRACE username can be a combination of letters and/or digits that must contain a maximum of 25 characters.

  • Type of data

    Alphanumeric characters

    Example

    Micheal007

    Required Format

    The SimpliTRACE password must contain a minimum 8 characters. This chain of characters must contain at least 1 digit, 1 capital letter and 1 small letter.

  • Type of data

    PRO1234567

    Required Format

    The Stakeholder number starts with a 3 letter prefix that corresponds to your role in the industry and is followed by 7 digits. This number is attributed by ATQ.

  • Type of data

    Required Format

    The Premises number starts with a 2 letter prefix that corresponds to the province and is followed by 7 digits. This number is attributed by ATQ.

  • Type of data

    Numeric characters

    Example

    124000123456789

    Required Format

    The tag number starts with the « 124000 » prefix which is a code for Canada and is followed by 9 digits that represents the animal’s individual identification number. This number contains a total of 15 digits.

  • Type of data

    2015-09-01

    Required Format

    The date must follow the YYYYY-MM-DD format, i.e., it must start with the year, month and day. These elements must be separated by a hyphen.

New Rules

NEW RULES WILL BE IN EFFECT FOR THE FOLLOWING SITUATIONS IN PARTICULAR: 

1. Attaching ear tags on an animal born on the farm

For animals born on the farm on a (registered) site in Quebec, the date of the ear tag attachment must be sent when making a declaration.

2. Attaching ear tags on a purchased or imported animal

In the case of a purchased or imported animal that has not been identified with approved ear tags, the date of the ear tag attachments must be sent when making a declaration.

3. Replacement or reissue of an ear tag number

After replacing an ear tag with another one that has a new number, or because the number already assigned to the animal was reissued, the date of ear tag attachment must be sent within 7 days following this event.

4. Arrival or departure of an animal on a production site

The transfer of an animal must be declared as an arrival on the site, or as a departure from the site.

5. Presence of an animal at an agricultural show or fair

After an animal’s participation in an agricultural show or fair, the return of the animal to the originating site, or the movement to another destination, must be declared by the custodian or owner of the animal.
